Because I'm a nerd: Is-tan-bul, from medieval Greek “is tim bolin” meaning “to the city.”
And I'm going to the city! I'll already be there in a week. I will be settled in my new home of Koç University, where I'll be studying for the next four months. And I cannot wait.
Things I am ready for:
-walking around an ancient city, i.e. WALKING THROUGH HISTORY
-getting to know new people and new (old) ways of life
-learning how to cook Turkish food
-learning a new language
-traveling through a new country and also,
-ASIA, a continent that has never seen the soles of my feet
-baklava
Things I am not ready for:
-packing
I'm going to try to stay off Facebook while I'm there, so this blog and my email are how I plan to stay in touch with people. Send me your address if you want a postcard!
